What is Pohela Falgun?
Falgun, being the first month of Spring, is also the eleventh month of the Bengali calendar. It is known as the king of the season among the six seasons of Bangladesh for it is when the flowers bloom again and the sun is warm welcoming back the birds. Pohela Falgun is an opener for all other occasions in the month to come, starting from Valentine’s Day to the Ekushey Boi Mela and, also Falguni Purnima – a day the Buddhist celebrates remembering Gautam Buddha’s reunion with his family after he was enlightened.
